Introduction

This project is targeted mostly at these students struggling with the disorders, at core the project aims to incorporate new platforms to deal with these complex issues. For instance, the project will construct a library in the hope of providing the affected ones with a new experience. As a result, they will be capable of doing things without depending on others, especially the daily needs. It will also benefit them in terms of fulfilling their educational desires by providing vocational training prior to work. Moreover, the library will enable these students to socially integrate within the community with the help of special educators and psychologists for more social interactions. This can be seen as critical for post treatment as they shift from a “patient” to an ordinary “citizen”.

Through primary research via interviews and other forms, it has become clear that those with mental illness disorders have little resources nor tolerance for their unique situation within the community at large. Families are not accepting that these challenges exist and therefore there is little patience nor help gotten for these people. Mental health is one of our most important resources in our community and this is not currently being addressed.

Goal

The idea is to create a new way of using the Qawqa'ah Enrichment Centre in order to educate and connect the community at large in Qatar around the idea of helping those with mental illness. Healing them and making them feel safe in a place over the sea, using nature and the greenery around the place where usually psychiatrists treat people.

n. Conch in arabic, this symbol was chosen from the sea because it wraps its user in its shell and plays the sounds of the ocean to create a sense of calmness allowing in the resident of the shell to gain peace in its home.

"The conch wraps its inhabitants in its shell to protect it and keep it warm and safe. Putting the conch next to your earth would make you hear the ocean. A perfect symbol for the feeling users should feel inside the space. An enrichment centre that disconnects people who suffer from mental illness from their everyday life into an environment full of calmness and peacefulness."
